Elementary, my dear Au

Au, or as it's more commonly known, gold, has become a staple in my jewellery box over the last few years. More recently, I've noticed it often popping up in the interior images I 'pin' or 'like' too. Gold can be tricky to work with - too much or not the right tone and a room becomes brash, verging on the precipice of tackiness. A touch here and there, however, can give a room a subtle lift, subconsciously sparking gold's better connotations, giving an air of opulence, luxury and comfort to the surroundings. Here are a few of the looks and pieces that have been drawing me in...

Light up my life

Lighting plays a core role in setting the tone of a room. From chandeliers with impact and carefully located spotlights through to perfectly positioned pairs, lighting can be used to pull together a look or make a statement all of its own. The following examples have all caught my eye...

And in situ...

Game, set, match

With Wimbledon and the season of strawberries, champers and the occasional downpour upon us, I thought I would take a look at some other great double acts the world of interiors has to offer.

On centre court we have the new pairing of 'legendary fine artist' Rob Ryan and consumer electronics manufacturer Pure. They have teamed up to create a very pleasing to the eye radio, beautifully decorated with Rob's distinct visual poetry. Rob is no stranger to a collaboration having previously showcased his talents with the likes of Paul Smith, Liberty of London, Tatty Devine and Vogue.

Playing on court 1 we have arguably one of Britain's most iconic designers joining forces with a high street hero, Conran for M&S. To quote, 'the Conran collection for M&S is drawn from a lifetime of exciting contemporary design. High quality furniture featuring innovative detailing is the result of a partnership of British excellence'.

On court 2 we are joined by 'designer, style maven and author' Abigail Ahern and the high street's, Debenhams. The Edition range encapsulates Ahern's style, weaving together an interior look that combines 'glamour, eclecticism and wit' in one enchanting collaboration.

A successful pairing since 2010, on court 3 we have seventies 'global fashion phenomenon', Biba and yet another high street face, House of Fraser.  The homeware range is just as bold and beautiful as you would expect from the glamorous fashion house.

Last but by no means least on my wish list is a pair of Jonathan Adler for Toms classic slip ons. I love Mr Adler's use of colour and playfulness in his interiors so I was very pleased to see this pairing of style, sass and comfort. In the oh so catchy words of Pharrell Williams these shoes just make your feet want to 'get happy!'.

A blue & white love affair

As the title of this post suggests, my favourite colour scheme is blue & white, followed closely by white & blue (with no nautical influence in sight). Anyone who views my Instagram or Pinterest accounts will quickly see a clear theme forming. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all colours and in the right tone and setting all have their place, but for my abode my personal preference is white, blue or a heady mix of the two.

At the moment I'm particularly drawn, much like a Magpie, to all things 'splatter'. I am wish listing items with this pattern like there's no tomorrow, here's a few of the things I've found...

Ok, it's not exactly blue & white and it's more marble than 'splatter' but this is a such an amazing piece I had to share (and it's comfortable!)...

Maurizio Galante and Tal Lancman

& I could go on further.

Till next time, thanks for viewing.

Bonjour

So this is my first time blogging, I've started because I want to create a space where I can share my thoughts and inspirations in the world of interiors. I've always been slightly obsessed by all things design. As a little girl, when most were daydreaming of their 'big day', I was busy drawing numerous dream houses (I changed my mind a lot). When most were asking for the latest toy for their birthday or Christmas, I was asking for new wallpaper or to be taken to the Ideal Home Show, and to this day when my latest interiors magazine subscription arrives, I take great pleasure pouring over and devouring each carefully crafted page.

I have so many scrapbooks of looks and ideas that I have collected over the years that it now seems only sensible to start a digital version before I run out of storage space at home. So here it is, hopefully you will like some of the things I share and if you are interested please do also take a look at my Instagram (@kbromley21) and Pinterest accounts (pinterest.com/kirstybromley/).
